Lower School Performing Arts
Christ Covenant School offers a variety of extracurricular music activities to supplement our classical curriculum. In the classical education model, music is one of the core academic subjects, as it is considered “math in motion.” As such, we are committed to providing a variety of musical opportunities for all students, both in and outside the music classroom.
For the 2018-19 school year, there is a wealth of options from which to choose!
Lower school students may:
~ Sing in Honor Choir or Praise Choir.
~ Take instrumental music classes on saxophone, clarinet, guitar, ukulele, piano, violin, or cello through the CCS Conservatory.
~ Take private piano lessons with Mrs. Tammy Walker or Mrs. Sherri Peacher, or Suzuki Piano or Voice lessons with Mrs. Lisa Murray.
~ Join The Spartan Players.
We encourage all students to share their gifts throughout the year during our many worship celebrations, including weekly chapel services, Grandparents Day, Lessons and Carols, National Day of Prayer, and Spring Concerts, so if your child plays an instrument, please make sure Mrs. Murray knows!
Praise choir, led by Mrs. Murray and Morgan Hazelwood, is open to all students in grades 1-6, and will meet in the sanctuary on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 beginning September 7. We will be preparing Praise and Worship songs with riser choreography to present in chapel and school concerts. Honor choir is open to committed singers in grades 4-6 and will meet on Fridays from 3:30-4:30 starting August 21, followed by specialized vocal workshops from 4:30-5:30. We will be working on vocal technique and preparing concert repertoire to present at CCS and to represent CCS to our community! The vocal workshops will prepare students to participate in statewide choral and vocal events such as All State Choir, All State Honor Choir, and Solo and Ensemble adjudication.
More information about Conservatory lessons has been sent home with your child. If your child is interested in praise choir, honor choir, or The Spartan Players, or if you have any questions about any of these opportunities, please contact Mrs. Murray at firstname.lastname@example.org.
